The Hanged Man Upright:
Keywords: self sacrifice, suspension, prophecy, grace, new perspective, pause, surrender, letting go, crossroads, acceptance, epiphanies, patience, introspection, meditation
The Hanged Man is unlike the other cards, the character in this card is already upside down when the card is upright. This doesn’t mean that it is negative or bad, it’s just something to think about.. This is a period of stepping back and meditation. It’s a time to see things in a new way. Maybe you have been letting something cloud your vision and now it’s time to see through a clearer view.
Sometimes you will know when things need to slow down and you need to take some time, especially if you are in tune with your intuition. if you’re not in tune, the Universe may slow things down for you. Things may come to an abrupt halt and it’s time to reassess and reevaluate things. Surrender to the Universe for this time and let things take their course. This can be scary, because you are letting go of control, but know that that Universe knows what it’s doing.
Reflect on what’s holding you stuck in a certain situation. You’re being asked to take a step back from things and go with the flow, while at the same time to change your perspective on things. Take a break and go for a walk outside in nature, or take a vacation from things.
You may be at a crossroads where you need to make a decision and there are multiple options that sound good. Don’t be rash, but take time to truly ponder all of the options fully. You may need to let go of some things before the right direction can fully be followed. This may leave you feeling vulnerable for a time.
The Hanged Man Reversed:
Keywords: selfishness, martyrdom, persecution, Delays, resistance, stalling, indecision
The slowing down that the upright version of this card represents is being resisted at this time. You keep pushing forward and thinking that this is the best path. The Universe is sending you all of the signs to slow down, but you’re not listening. Slow down before things end up crashing around you, forcing you to slow down.
When things are already on hold, you need to release your attachment to the outcome and accept whatever the outcome will be. Stop trying to force your will onto the situation and things will start to move. When you do this, you may find that new opportunities show up that are better than the one you were trying to force.
In a relationship, you may be ok waiting, but you don’t want to wait forever. There will come a time when you must decide if you want to continue to wait, or change your direction.
